Did you wash your sand before putting it in tank?

Yeah I rinsed mine out in a 5g bucket a lil at a time using water from my outdoor tap. Even did the live sand from my two 20L tanks the same way. I didn't have money buy all new sand for my 75g so i just did a half and half mix with the old and new sand. I never seen any issue using this method.

Can I use beach or dune sand for my reef aquarium?

I am planning to build a reef tank 180x80x76 (71x31x30) and put in 5 cm sand bed which mean around 72 kg of sand. Unfortunately, there is not sand "producer" in Chile and import 72 kg of sand will be really expensive. So, I am thinking that we have a lot of beach and dune sand in Chile.

I am planning on using pool filter sand for my first reef tank. I've used all the calculators online for the amount of sand I need and they all say 100 pounds of sand for a cubic foot. Changing out sand as part of tank move? | REEF2REEF Saltwater and Reef

But if it is a large tank you will likely want to use new sand, as it would be cumbersome to wash all the sand in a large tank. I replaced all the sand in my 125 a few years in, because I used oolite sand (sugar grain sized), and it was a constant mess. Tank did amazing after I swapped out the sand.

I don't know what got into me, but I just placed the rocks, poured in the sand, then the water. It hit me when my tank took on the appearance of a big latte.
